Pets of any kind, type or breed are eligible for the internet (on-line) and in-paper (print) contest. Pit bulls and Rottweilers (Rottweil Metzgerhund) will be excluded from the Pet Idol event, October 11, 2008 at Susquehanna Valley Mall. Owner’s name, phone number, address, pets name and breed type must be written on the back of the photograph. Entries with incomplete information will not be accepted. Hard copy photographs must be at least two inches wide. Poor quality photographs will not be accepted. Photographs are non-returnable. Copyrighted photographs must be accompanied by a photographer's release. The Daily Item reserves the right to require proof of ownership. One photograph per pet. Entries will not be accepted after October 1 2008. This contest is void where prohibited by law.
The Daily Item / Danville News, and the Daily Item's Newspapers in Education program are not responsible for incomplete, lost, late, postage-due, misdirected, or illegible entries (either photos or ballots) or for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind. This includes, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, hardware, or software, whether originating with sender or recipient. In the event of a dispute, all online entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the owner of the ISP account from which they are sent. For these purposes, an ISP account holder shall mean the natural person assigned to such ISP account by the Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning ISP addresses for the domain associated with such ISP account. All online votes are the responsibility of Second Street Media and will not be counted until delivered successfully to The Daily Item. The Daily Item / Danville News and The Daily Item's Newspapers in Education program assume no responsibility for the loss of potential votes through malfunctions of any third-party software or procedures, including but not limited to, Second Street Media, their affiliates and contractors.
Winners will be notified by telephone and/or e-mail. If a winner is unreachable after seven (7) days, or if that winner is unavailable for prize fulfillment, an alternate winner will be selected. If The Daily Item cannot find an eligible winner for the prize, that prize will not be awarded.
All entries must supply a complete valid postal address to receive any prizes. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
The Daily Item / Danville News reserve the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value.
The Daily Item / Danville News reserves the right to restrict the local winners to only persons whose primary residence is within a 100 mile radius of the affiliate's office.
Employees of The Daily Item / Danville News, its respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible.
Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the contest commissioners, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest.
Entrants further grant to The Daily Item / Danville News the right to use and publish their proper name and state online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the Contest.
The Daily Item / Danville News reserves the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.

Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.
Each winner, by acceptance of the prize, agrees to release all Sponsors, and their parent and subsidiary companies, their officers, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, and advertising agencies from all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of the prize.
Winning entries will be determined by an entry receiving the most combined votes between Internet voting and votes received at the Pet Idol event, October 11, 2008 at the Susquehanna Valley Mall. Internet voting is restricted to registered users. Users may only create one user account per person. UPICKEM, The Daily Item / Danville News and Newspapers in Education program are not responsible for Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, electrical outages, natural disasters, or acts of man or God. Voting will begin approximately 12:00 Noon on Thursday October 2nd and continue through 9:00 p.m., October18th 2008.
All results posted are unofficial until verified by The Daily Item and until winners respond to telephone and/or e-mail notification. Ties will be broken via random drawing.
Each winner is responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes and may be required to complete an IRS form W-9. Sponsor reserves the right to withhold prizes until completed form W-9 is received.
This contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that a contestant is using the contest for gambling purposes they will be disqualified and reported to authorities.
The Daily Item / Danville News reserves the right to change the rules at any time.
